ARC moved to our purpose built flagship facility in May 2017. The facility is the result of over 4 years of planning, design, hard work and provides top of the range facilities.
Nether Anguston Farm, Peterculter is on the west of Aberdeen and provides an ideal location. Twenty minutes from the City centre by car and being located near to the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route, means we easily accessible from both the north and south of the City.
If you are travelling by public transport, we are located near to the 201 & 202 bus stops.
We are lucky to be situated in a very rural, country location, just minutes from the City.
Our indoor school is 24 metres wide and 72 metres ling, making it quite a sizeable building. We have installed portable partitions to split the school into a small arena for beginner / novice groups, lunge / private lessons and a larger arena for more advanced group / private lessons.
There is a viewing area within the school so spectators can stay dry and hear the lessons, whilst enjoying a warm coffee in the area beside the reception. In the winter months, however even this area can be chilly and you should dress appropriately to spectate.
The indoor surface is a sand/bark/rubber mix, providing an excellent stable, cushioned surface and is maintained each day with arena levellers. The arenas are equipped with excellent lighting, thanks to overhead LED lighting, allowing our members and liveries to ride at any time of the day, all year round.
There is a variety of jumps and equipment available to both indoor schools.
We were keen to provide completely secure hacking at our new site, so we have installed a hacking track around the whole perimeter of the farm (around six miles long), which is fenced with gates at either end. This means that riders are completely secure once on the track, with no danger of a horse getting loose onto the road, should anybody fall.
The track is excellent for fittening work and is also a lovely place to walk your dogs, if you are waiting for somebody in a lesson. We are hoping to offer hacking around this track our riding school members too, in the near future.
The outdoor arena is 35m wide, 58m long and has a huge herring bone draining system laid underneath, with hardcore, membrane layers with a mixture of sand, rubber and carpet fibre mixture on top. The outdoor arena is used both for riding school and livery lessons, it tends to be most commonly used for jumping. The arena is fenced with post and rail fencing with full LED floodlighting, allowing it to be used in any weather or light conditions.
Our stabling is located around the indoor arenas, ranging in sizes from 10ft x 12ft to 12ft x 12ft. The stables are made from galvanized steel and durable plastic wood effect panelling, to reduce maintenance and ensure they are fire retardant.
The school horses occupy the stables on the West side of the building and the liveries occupy the East side. The livery side of the barn is restricted to livery members only for safety reasons as the tractor operates in this area.
When visiting the club please remain on the riding school side of the building for your own safety.
At Nether Anguston Farm we have 120 acres of grassland split into 25 fields. The average field size is four acres, with smaller ‘fatties’ field for our chunkier residents during the summer months.
We have two “laminitic” turn out pens, which are used for laminitics and also for horses who are returning to turn out after box rest. We also have several smaller grass turnout pens, which are used before a horse is re-introduced to full turnout.
We take our own haylage crop off of 15 acres at Anguston and also the remaining 60 acres at our old premises at Oldfold farm, ensuring we have the highest quality forage for the horses to eat over winter.
We have two tack rooms, two feed rooms, a wash bay, members canteen, viewing area, reception and private staff room all located on site at Nether Anguston Farm.
This allows for the riding school and livery tack to be kept completely separate and all tack stores are within easy reach of the stabling areas. Reception is located on your left as you enter the building and we do request that all visitors report to reception before continuing through into the riding school.
We also have male, female and unisex toilets onsite, located at the front of the building opposite reception and two disabled toilets, with one located next to the reception area and the other located in the stabling area.
